Crucible: A container made of a substance that can resist great heat, for melting, fusing or metals, etc
In the play The Crucible, everyone within the town gets involved in the trails. The actual word, crucible means that everything inside the container will melt, or fuse. So in comparison to the play, the container is the town, and the people inside are going mad. This is a good symbol for the town. The town was in complete chaos, everyone was blaming each other. Inside the container, everything is blowing up. The chaos in the book started out slow then just blew up. The title is good symbolism of the play. After the entire town got heated, things eventually will calm down, after all is said and done.
I have been in a crucible. In middle school, everyone really judged each other and did not like each other. Eventually, fights happened between everyone. It was only inside our grade these things happened. Looking back on middle school and how everyone acted, it seemed stupid. The television show, Desperate Housewives is like a crucible too. In this show, ever since the one lady died, things started to get heated only within the town. Throughout the many seasons, the people within the town get very heated and angry at each other. Eventually, the heat will die out in the town and everyone moves on.

Giles Corey October 20, 2010
“He would not answer aye or nay to his indictment; for if he denied the charge they’d hang him surely, and auction out his property. So he stand mute, and died Christian under the law. And so his sons will have his farm,” (Miller, 59).This quote is said by Elizabeth to Proctor and Giles Corey. Giles Corey was accused of being a wizard also, instead of confessing or hanging, he killed himself. By killing himself, he dies a Christian, and not as a wizard or he does not rot in jail. Giles Corey is motivated to die without confessing because he does not want to give into the unjust system. He will not give into the ridiculous deference of the court. His decision compares with Proctor’s because they both knew their innocence and would not give into the wrongful court. Proctor could not let them use his name and be shameful the rest of his life.
Giles Corey and Proctor are both great men for dieing for their lives and not confessing. So far I do not have any convictions that I would be willing to die for. In my lifetime, I have a bid by the law and was never sent to court for anything. The only time someone should die for their convictions are when they murder someone or attempt to murder someone. Taking another person’s life is just wrong. In the movie The Green Mile, John Coffery is convicted of raping and murdering two girls. John Coffery does deserve to be put to death for the crime even though he has these powers. It was a very emotional movie.

Overwhelming Emotion October 18, 2010
Miller uses poetic devices to convey the overwhelming emotion of the meeting between Elizabeth and Proctor. “Whatever you will do, it is a good man does it. I have sins of my own to count. It needs a cold wife to prompt lechery,” (Miller, 59). This quote is said by Elizabeth to Proctor when they are meeting. She is trying to talk him into confessing so he does not die. Elizabeth is finally ready to forgive him for cheating on her. This is very emotional for both of them. She is practically taking the blame for it, this also seems a little bit paradox. This seems paradox because no matter what a man should stick by his wife and never cheat.
In my life, I was overwhelmed with emotion when my parents got divorced. I was very upset and sad. I thought my life was over. The divorce was hard because my parents always fought during and after. Sometimes they still do fight. At the time I was only ten, and my brother was only five. I had so many different emotions, like scared, hurt, worrisome, and sadness. It was really hard at the time, but it only made me a stronger person. In a lot of movies, characters are always overwhelmed with emotion. An example of this is in Dear John, when he leaves to go to war, and Savannah ends things with him and he also loses his father. This is a really rough time for him. He is very upset throughout this time in the movie and continues until the end. This builds him a stronger person also.

Elizabeth and Proctor. October 14, 2010
"In her life, sir she have never lied. There are them that cannot sing, and them that cannot weep- my wife cannot lie." (Miller, 49).
Proctor says this about his wife to Danforth. They are in the courthouse and they are trying to prove Elizabeth's innocence. Proctor is trying to explain how his wife is innocent and he's protecting his wife. However Elizabeth lies in court to protect her husband's name and not admit he cheated on her. This does not help solve their problem, but shows she is unselfish and is putting her husband before her.
I am most like Elizabeth because she is unselfish, honest, and loving. Elizabeth lies to the court for the first time in her life, to protect her husband. By doing this, it shows she is unselfish and just watching out for her husband. Family comes first to me. I protect my brother all the time, even from my mom when he's getting in trouble. Elizabeth is also honest, I myself am very honest. Part of the reason, I do not lie is the fear of getting in trouble, especially with teachers, or other parents. The other reason is because it is wrong. Once, I did lie to a teacher and she found out I lied to her. By lying to her, I got in even more trouble. Lastly, I am also very loving. For the most part, I do not hate anyone. I believe that it is wrong to hate someone, we do not know everyone's past, and we have no right to judge someone.
"My husband is a good and righteous man. He is never drunk as some are, nor wastin' his time at the shovelboard, but always his work." (Miller, 50).
This is said by Elizabeth to Danforth about her husband Proctor. She is trying to save his name and lie to the court. Proctor is a good man, he is at the courthouse trying to save his wife at all costs. He loves his wife and family very much and is a good man. However he did cheat on his wife with Abagbecail and is trying to clear everything up. Everyone makes a mistake in their marriage, and this was his mistake.
Miller is most like Proctor because Miller himself also said he was most like Proctor. He had his own problems in his marriage. He also protected people's names from getting arrested. By keeping the names he went to jail. He was being a good man by not telling the names of those people.

The good are never safe October 7, 2010
"I will tell you this- you are either lying now, or you were lying in the court, and in either case you have committed perjury and you will go to jail for it." (Miller, 45).
This quote is said by Danforth to Mary. In the play, Mary has just confessed to lying in the court, saying the girls and her were lying about the spirits and who was witches. Mary was one of the girls who was naming people as witches and testifying against them in court. As we know, these girls are lying to everyone to save themselves. Danforth does not know the truth about these girls and are going by their word. However, the good like Goody Procotor do have something to fear, Abagail wants Goody Procotor dead. This court is based around the lies of the girls, and whatever comes out of their mouth is right according to the court. A fair and equal trail is never presented to the victim. Danforth's statement does not apply as much today. Today the court of law is has a better system and is more honest.
This is very unfair to everyone in the town. Mary should have never went along with the girls in the first place. She is going along with the pack, and now the girls are against her. If I was Mary, I would confess to everything and hope the court believed me. Perhaps now she will learn her lesson about lying and doing what others do. When I was in sixth grade, everyone thought it was cool to steal pens and pencils from the teacher. So one day, I tried and I was the one who got in trouble. I learned my lesson about doing what others do and always tell the truth. Another relation, is my brother's friends thought it was cool to throw snowballs at a police car. After they threw the snowballs at the car, the police officer turned around and brought them off and told their parents My brother claimed he did not want to but did. So he learned his friends can do what they want, and he will follow his conscience. Mary should have followed hers and not listen to Abagail.
