Miller uses poetic devices to convey the overwhelming emotion of the meeting between Elizabeth and Proctor. “Whatever you will do, it is a good man does it. I have sins of my own to count. It needs a cold wife to prompt lechery,” (Miller, 59). This quote is said by Elizabeth to Proctor when they are meeting. She is trying to talk him into confessing so he does not die. Elizabeth is finally ready to forgive him for cheating on her. This is very emotional for both of them. She is practically taking the blame for it, this also seems a little bit paradox. This seems paradox because no matter what a man should stick by his wife and never cheat.
In my life, I was overwhelmed with emotion when my parents got divorced. I was very upset and sad. I thought my life was over. The divorce was hard because my parents always fought during and after. Sometimes they still do fight. At the time I was only ten, and my brother was only five. I had so many different emotions, like scared, hurt, worrisome, and sadness. It was really hard at the time, but it only made me a stronger person. In a lot of movies, characters are always overwhelmed with emotion. An example of this is in Dear John, when he leaves to go to war, and Savannah ends things with him and he also loses his father. This is a really rough time for him. He is very upset throughout this time in the movie and continues until the end. This builds him a stronger person also.
It’s kind of funny I used the same quote in my response. My parents are divorced as well I wasn't as young as you but I know how you were feeling. Still after the divorce my parents consistently fight. Family issues can really have an effect a person. You are right things like this only make you stronger. Dear John is such a great book I read it last year I felt so bad when all of that was happening to him.
